Nogales, Arizona — A tragic accident on Interstate 19 near Nogales on Wednesday resulted in the deaths of two individuals. The incident occurred at approximately 3:43 p.m. when a passenger sedan traveling southbound on I-19 near Rudy Road lost control and collided with another vehicle. The force of the impact caused the sedan to cross the median, roll over, and come to a stop, blocking the northbound traffic lanes.
Both the driver and the passenger of the sedan were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the other vehicle involved were unharmed. Following the accident, Interstate 19 was closed in both directions, with traffic diverted at Mariposa Road. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has since reopened all lanes of the interstate.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously and stay informed about highway conditions through ADOT’s resources.
