On March 9, 2025Catherine King, a 51-year-old Mesa resident, lost her life while helping someone in need. After witnessing a crash on Loop 202 near 40th Street in Phoenix, she pulled over to assist the driver. Tragically, while offering help, she was struck by another vehicle and did not survive.

A Life of Kindness and Generosity

Catherine King was known for her kindness and her willingness to help others, no matter the situation. Her husband, Anton Avington, called her “the love of my life” and described her as someone who always put others first. Her niece, Sharay Reese, said that King’s generosity was simply part of who she was—always ready to lend a hand to those in need.

Even in her final moments, King’s instinct was to help. She stopped her car, turned on her hazard lights, and approached the vehicle of a driver who had crashed. As another car swerved to avoid the wreck, it hit King, leading to her tragic passing.
