Late Tuesday night, Phoenix police officers were involved in a shooting in Gilbert, near the intersection of Williams Field Road and Higley Road. This incident led to the closure of Higley Road, just south of Williams Field Road, which remained closed as of Wednesday morning.
According to Phoenix police, the officers were following a lead in a case that brought them to Gilbert, culminating in the shooting. No officers were injured during the incident. The conditions of others involved remain unknown at this time. Gilbert police are currently investigating the shooting and have not yet provided additional comments.
Preliminary information from a news conference held around 2am on Wednesday indicated that Phoenix police responded to a potential kidnapping call around 5:30pm on Tuesday evening. The caller reported seeing a man forcing a woman into his red pickup truck. The suspect then drove through the East Valley, where police attempted to stop him using a grappler device, leading to the shooting. This information is still under investigation and has yet to be confirmed.
